Web Portfolio >> Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Web Internship
As of May 2005 I started my first job as an MCPS Intern for the
Web Services Team. I was hired as the graphics designer to complement two
other student interns [at the time] from QOHS -- Justin (web producer) and Stephen (programmer).
Just out of high school, I had my own little
work space, computer, phone and a pretty good paycheck. What did I do? I completely
re-designed elementary school web sites that need major help, and also collaborated
with the other two interns to create the final design template and then
transfer content from the old sites to the new ones. After those designs have been transferred from us to their new webmasters (often volunteer, do-it-yourself teachers/parents), then updates are no longer our responsibility.
With that, I also
created Flash presentations and pitch in with CSS production and office
sites. As interns, we basically manage ourselves as a web team within a web team.
Our purpose was to help relieve the stress demanded of the web team while getting a hands-on feel of a real work environment.![]()
I did a lot of design work for Montgomery County's elementary schools as part of my web team internship. And that's where most of my professional experience started. I definately enjoyed my time there in the office and meeting with all the different school staff. And here I've posted just a few bits of some of those work
Having collaborated with Stephen and Justin, we managed to create some great work. Of course my assignments consisted of a lot of cartoon-y characters, but it was fun. I definately learned a lot. Here are some of the highlights:
